Microbial Identification

Bacterial and Fungal Identification

Comparative DNA sequencing involves discriminating between known variations within the coding regions of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) to identify organisms at the species level. Fungi and bacteria are identified using PCR amplification and sequencing followed by a bioinformatics analysis.

Service Highlights

Microbial Identification Color Wheel

  • Fungal – PCR amplification of the 28S ribosomal RNA genes followed by Sanger sequencing to identify fugal isolate
  • Bacterial – PCR amplification of the 16S ribosomal RNA genes followed by Sanger sequencing to identify bacteria isolate
  • Metagenomic analysis by NGS (MiSeq or Ion Torrent) – screen complex microbial ecosystems and receive a detailed report of the microbial species.
  • TAT: 3-4 weeks
